5 Simple ways your clothes in your closet can make You look Stunning

For many of us our closets are heaving with clothes, bags, shoes, things that belong in other places.
Do you go to your closet, open the door and feel discouraged?
Do you have to pull random objects out of the way to find what you are looking for?
Do you feel like the clothes you are wearing are making you feel frumpy?

If you answer YES to any of these questions, don’t you deserve to make the clothes in your closet make you feel like you could take on the world? I am here to give you 5 simple ways your clothes in your closet can make you look stunning!

How to look stunning in your clothes

We need to let go of any clothes that are too big, too small, and not your style or colour. Now for some of us that is easy to decide, some of us may need to PHONE A FRIEND, come on we all have them, the ones that look like that have stepped off the pages of a magazine. They know how to put it together and they can help you.
The most important part of this action is to let go of the idea that ” I WILL FIT INTO THAT ONE DAY” No you will not, i have this conversation with client’s all the time. When we and lose, and gain weight,  like we all do, we do not gain and lose it in the same areas, the clothes you are hanging onto will fit differently. It is time to have a closet of clothes that fit you NOW!!

If you spend the time getting a proper bra fitting it will make all the difference to how your clothes are going to fit you. In fact 85% of women are walking around wearing the wrong size.
It is also important to find the right bra style for your figure, you may need a push up, full coverage, strapless, the list goes on.
A good lingerie shop will make sure the fit is perfect for you, let’s face it a well made, well fitting bra is going to make you feel like a million bucks before you even get dressed.
Just remember to wash and store them properly and they will stay supportive!!

Would you be surprised if I said it will be quicker to get dressed in the morning if you take time to organize?
If you take the time and put in the effort now, it will save you a lot of headaches in the future.

Start by letting go of all the wire hangers, then colour code, and dived into work and leisure. Once you have let go of clothes we talked about in the first category this will be easier to achieve.
Set your closet up for how you use it, if business dress is your every day main event, put those front and centre.
Remember to make space for purses and shoes. Clear shoe boxes are great for shoes and purses, they are stackable, clear, so you can quickly see what you need, and protect your shoes and purses from damage.

What I mean by prioritize, is where do you want your money to go in regards to your clothing? Is having good quality office attire important in your life right now? Right now is how you should be dressing and where you should be putting your efforts, not yesterday, or tomorrow.
We all deserve to feel good everyday, but this can only be accomplished if you prioritize the “right now” clothes in your closet.

Many of us have heard of “fast fashion” a quick turn over of the lasted fads and trends. The problem with fads and trends they usually are not the greatest quality and are out of style very quickly, they also do not fit every body type.
So if you are trying to keep up with trends they may not make you look put together or as stylish as you thought.

Getting to know your body, what you feel comfortable and confident in is key. For example I hardly ever wear skirts or dresses, they are not comfortable for me, I am more of a Katherine Hepburn kind of girl.
katherine_hepburn_denim3What type of women are you? This will make it a lot easier to shop for clothes that you actually look good in, because of the confidence it gives wearing them.
Find stores that carry your kind of fashion and purchase there, I love Ricki’s stores for business clothes for that reason.
You don’t have to spend a fortune on clothes either, if you want designer clothes but can’t pay the price, look for sales and consignment stores, such as The Wild Rose who carry high end clothing. Sometimes I have purchased items with the tags still on for a third of the price.

This latest Reitman’s commercial says it all, purchase clothes that make you feel excited about getting dressed in the morning.

It is worth taking the time now to set yourself up for success.

  1. I struggle with clothing because of my size, especially with shoes. I wear a US 5 narrow – almost impossible. Have to order online. I do agree that it makes sense to dress in the clothing that make you feel confident. I don’t look so great in leggings, so I stick with boot cut pants.

  2. GREGreat post, Jill! I love what you said about feeling confident in the clothes you are wearing! I know when I am wearing something that is the right color, size, and fit for my body it makes me feel like I can conquer the world. Why have clothes that don’t do that for me? Very encouraging and I hope others will feel the same 🙂

  3. I definitely agree with doing this task with someone you trust. My sister helped me with a major wardrobe purge a few years ago (probably got rid of more than I kept) and basically ordered me to get rid of a particular top that I loved but that wasn’t flattering in the least (my husband backed her up).

I love consignment shops, and bought a dress for my son’s wedding at The Wild Rose! There’s a new one by my place called Meaningfulwear Consignment, and the owner is wonderful at helping customers find pieces that go together. And the chances of running into someone else are so slim, compared to shopping at a chain store.

    • True, Janet, when you shop at consignment stores you can get really unique pieces, i purchased a dress for a wedding from Wild Rose, and i get compliments on it all the time, i have never seen it anywhere else, but it is also versatile enough for multiple uses. Thank you for your comments, have a great week. 🙂

  4. Great post, Jill. I like that you mentioned “prioritize” when spending money for clothes. I tend to buy clothes only once a season and pick the items that are the most worn like shirts or pants depending on what looks the worst. It helps me freshen my wardrobe and minimize my cost. I actually went shopping recently and found great deals on beautiful blouses for work. So happy with them. And, was able to get rid of several shirts that just looked too shabby.

    • Thank you, Sabrina. I love when i get good deals on clothes we love to wear, makes wearing them feel even better. Thank you for your comment and have a great week.

  5. When it comes to closet/clothing organizing, I love that you put “letting go” first on the list. It’s so true that we tend to hold on to things because we bought them or someone gave them to us even IF they don’t fit, look good, or are never worn. Giving ourselves permission to say good-bye is key. And sometimes this is more easily done with a friend or professional by your side.

Knowing that you can easily get dressed in clothes that fit, feel wonderful, and are your right colors, make all the difference. When we can do that, we feel more confident, relaxed, and can be in the world in a more positive way.

    • Thank you, Linda. I usually start with what my clients CAN let go off before i move on to the harder pieces and this post was inspired by working with some of my clients. Clothes are a real hot bed for a lot of people. Thank you for your comments, and have a great week.
